Synopsis
- This guide will help students create a poster for a climate strike or demonstration.
- This guide is specifically for the 2019 youth-led climate strike on September 20, 2019, but you could simply adapt this guide for any future demonstrations or activities.
Teaching Materials
Positives
- This could be used to introduce students to the Paris Climate Agreement.
- The student worksheet helps the student create a story in six words or less.
- The student worksheet opens with a motivating letter from Greta Thunberg.
Additional Prerequisites
- Since students are now moving towards digital art, an adaptation would be to use Canva, an easy-to-use online design and publishing tool.
- If so, teachers might want to learn how to use the tool before hand.
- Teachers need to create a free account to access the materials.
Differentiation
- This activity can be a good culminating assessment for students to connect what they learn in the classroom to a global event in order to exercise climate action.
- This activity can be more thoughtfully done by examining communication techniques and media messages. This lesson introduces the concept well.
- In order for students to think about impact, you could have a follow-up activity after they participate in or observe a climate strike and then reflect on the effects of global movements.
