Synopsis
  • This resource contains maps, tabular data, charts, news, and articles related to New Jersey's weather. 
  • The weather information updates in real time using data from dozens of stations. 
Teaching Tips

Positives

  • Users can create their own table in the "tabular data" tab by clicking "new search" in the top righthand corner and choosing which weather stations and elements to include in the table.
  • There are colorful maps of current temperatures, wind speed, radar, and wind gusts at the top of the web page, along with a weather-related article. 

Additional Prerequisites

  • The blog portion of the resource has not been updated since 2018.
  • The layout on the homepage is a little busy and confusing but the other tabs are much easier to navigate.

Differentiation

  • Math teachers could use the tabular data to create table data word problems for students to solve.
  • Science classes could use this resource in a unit about meteorology. Students could look at the barometric pressure graph and use it to forecast the weather.

Scientist Notes
This resource provides daily and weekly weather forecasts real-time.  This information is important for disaster risk management, especially in coastal communities of New Jersey and other areas at risk. This resource contains additional blogs and links for students to explore more on the subject. This is recommended for teaching.
