Create a Biome Map

• In this activity, students choose three biomes to research. Then they color them on the world map and add the key map and compass.
• Students write a paragraph describing the biome and then discuss the effects of climate change on the biomes and suggest possible solutions.

• This activity develops students' research, geography, analysis, and cartography skills.
• It includes several exercises that have more than one objective and a link to help students with their research.

Additional Prerequisites

• Students need to be familiar with the following: key, compass, biomes, and how to describe aspects of physical geography such as biomes.
• The teacher must print the student handout for each student.

Differentiation

• Support group: The teacher can guide students in their research and help them write their paragraph by outlining the main ideas.
• Extension group: Students could research more than three biomes.
• Students can create a diorama of one of their three biomes using a shoebox and present to their classmates.
