|
Ask a Question

Synopsis
  • A video that outlines three impactful strategies to mitigate climate change, referencing Project Drawdown data.
  • Students learn about 3 climate solutions and the positive effects they can have on the environment: managing refrigerant gases, on-shore wind, and plant-based diets.
Teaching Tips

Positives

  • Eye-catching infographics accompany the video.
  • Highlights the importance of climate action and thinking logistically.

Additional Prerequisites

  • Students should have an understanding of climate change.
  • Students should be familiar with onshore wind and hydrofluorocarbons/refrigerant gases.
  • There are commercials in the video.

Differentiation

  • Teachers can use from 1:16-3:47 of this video to explain refrigerant management to 6th-8th graders.
  • Teachers can use from 3:48-6:03 to explain Onshore Energy as a valuable renewable energy source.
  • Teachers can play part 6:00-7:25 and then have a class discussion with students on ways to incorporate plant-based diets into their lifestyle.

Scientist Notes
This 11-minute video presents three strategies recommended by Project Drawdown that can substantially reduce future greenhouse gas emissions and reduce climate change impacts: Refrigerant Management, Wind Energy, and Plant-Based Diets. Citations are provided in small text on the bottom right corner of the screen, which need to be looked up from a list of resources linked in the video description. Although this takes additional effort to follow citations, this resource is recommended for teaching.
