Synopsis
- In this activity, students will create two food webs to show how organisms and community members interact with each other in an ecosystem.
- Students will learn how communities, animals, and plants are deeply interconnected.

Additional Prerequisites
- Students should know the expectations for participating in this activity, such as staying in the circle and holding tightly to their strings.
- Students should know the term autotroph and should know, in general, what different animals eat. Students should also know that plants get their energy from the sun.
Differentiation
- Teachers can have students model what happens when a species becomes endangered or extinct by having some students drop or cut their strings.
- Students can research food webs in different ecosystems and create a model.
- This activity would fit nicely in this lesson about ecosystems and food chains.
- Teachers can use this activity before students do a group project to demonstrate their interdependence and need for teamwork.
