Synopsis
- In this lesson from Future Chicken!, students will learn about an unexpected effect of climate change, more intense winter storms.
- Students will discuss what they love about the snow, watch a video explaining how climate change can impact winter activities and storms, and brainstorm actions they can take to address climate change and preserve the snow.

Prerequisites

Differentiation & Implementation
- If students have no background knowledge in the greenhouse effect and climate change, teachers may want to precede this lesson with this one, which will provide a foundation for the information that is touched on briefly in this lesson.
- Students may enjoy a mini-lesson giving them background on the Winter Olympics or winter sports in general.
- Teachers can ask students in climates that have cold winters to think about their favorite winter activities and how they may be impacted by climate change. For example, some students may have already experienced parents or grandparents talking about shorter snowmobiling or ice fishing seasons.
- Teachers can connect this lesson to Sustainable Development Goal 13, Climate Action. Teachers can also point out the relationship to SDG 8, Decent Work and Economic Growth, by explaining how climate change has economic impacts on businesses like ski resorts.
