Synopsis
This interactive map, table, and chart from Our World in Data provide students with an opportunity to explore where and how much solar energy is being produced around the world.
Students can select the countries they wish to see on the line graph.
The data begins in 2000, and all resources can be downloaded.
Students can see the progression of solar energy around the world over time and see which countries have the most installed capacity.
The line graph allows students to quickly see which countries are leading in installed solar.
Prerequisites
Students should know how to read a line graph and world map.
You can sort the table by column.
The line graph can display the data on a linear or logarithmic scale.
Differentiation & Implementation
Social studies classes can discussed the importance of solar and other clean energy when it comes to environmental justice conditions like air quality.
Physics classes can discuss the differences in carbon emissions between fossil fuel energy and solar energy.
