Synopsis
This resource from Our World in Data includes an interactive map, table, and graph that show the fossil fuel consumption for countries around the world since 1965.
Students can isolate data on all the visualizations and change the time frame for the visualizations as well.
Students can make the visualizations fullscreen to reduce distractions when analyzing the data.
The resource includes many features to filter, sort, and isolate the data so students can customize the visualization to fit their needs.
Prerequisites
Students may need the term terawatt-hours defined to understand how the data is measured
Students should understand what fossil fuels are and how they are produced.
Differentiation & Implementation
Teachers can use this resource in conjunction with the lesson plan Fossil Fuels and Climate Change to relate the prevalence of fossil fuel use to the consequences of their use and extraction.
To see the distribution of fossil fuel use by type, students can use the Global Fossil Fuel Consumption resource from Our World in Data.
Students can compare their country's fossil fuel use to that of a country of study.
